BEING RECONCILERS IN A WORLD OF HATRED AND VIOLENCE. . . beginning with ourselves

Just as this farmer has enough hope and faith to plant a seed in rocky ground, Quakers and other people of faith are called to nurture love, forgiveness and reconciliation and to overcome distrust, misunderstanding, and hatred. Reconciliation doesn't mean that we all come to unity in our perspectives or our theology. It does mean that we treat those we disagree with respectfully, with civility, and with kindness. God extends love, forgiveness, and reconciliation to everyone. And we are entrusted to live out that same ministy of reconciliation. (II Corinthians 5:18-19)
The call to the ministry of reconciliation extends very broadly-- to our world where hatred and violence abound and to our worship and fellowship groups where we don't always experience forgiveness, understanding and reconciliation. Most especially, our ministry of reconciliation begins with ourselves and our relationship with God, where we find the spaciousness of God's grace that paves the way for us to love and forgive.
Conflict is not bad; it is a normal part of life. But conflict becomes harmful when it undermines love and mutual caring. It becomes destructive when it is an occasion for divisiveness, broken relationships and trust, and ultimately a form of violence that motivates us to act harmfully toward another.
The Reconciliation Project came into being in 2009 to provide resources and encouragement for seeking reconciliation, healing, and peace within and among Friends groups around the world.

WHO ARE THE QUAKERS?
The Society of Friends, the Quakers, came into being in mid-Seventeenth Century England out of the spiritual seeking and hunger of a man named George Fox and others who joined him for worship, spiritual seeking, and presenting a witness to society.
Quakers can be found in most parts of the world today, especially in the Global South, where there are large numbers in East and Central Africa and Latin America.
"Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."
James 3:14
